Crown of India is situated in a strip mall just outside Princeton Junction Train Station. For us, it was a nice stop off before heading home when we got home late from work one Friday night.
It was unobtrusive and almost hard to find, but once we were inside, it was like walking into a little piece of India. The fresh aromas of spices mingling in the air and the waiters whose eyes were used to staring unabashedly until someone broke the silence and spoke. All a nice comforting reminder that we could grab a piece of India and savor it even in Princeton, New Jersey.
The food was excellent, to say the least. The Lassi we had was not totally to die for, but it may be because we are both used to having the Lassis that I make at home and our taste buds have most likely become accustomed to my recipe.
For starters we had Chicken Soup and Tomato Soup. The Chicken soup tasted like broth taken right out of the container from a supermarket while the Tomato soup left much to be desired... But out of the two, the Tomato Soup won out with my taste buds.
For our main course, we ordered Chicken Tikka, which they describe as "boneless juicy chunks of chicken marinated in aromatic Indian herbs and baked in clay oven". The Chicken Tikka was smooth and tasty, and we took most of it home. We had already stuffed ourselves with the appetizers and the soups.
The picture above is not a picture of the actual Chicken Tikka that we had at this restaurant. It is just shown to give you an idea of what it looked like.
We had Gulab jamun for dessert. OF COURSE I had to have this. I almost never get anything else for dessert, aside from ice cream, and then it has to be Mango Ice Cream.
