GRAVITY

GRAVITY: Drama/Thriller
October 4, 2013
91minutes

Director:

 Alfonso Cuaron

Writers:

 Alfonso Cuaron, Jonas Cuaron

Actors:

 Sandra Bullock, George Clooney
LALQ RATING: 10/10 MUST SEE!
We finally got around to watching this much talked about movie!  Sandra Bullock and George Clooney were two astronauts on a routine mission.  They soon realized that they were in peril when they get bombarded by flying shrapnel from a blast accidently created by the Soviets.

The movie was hair raising to say the least,  and as I say, "fist-clenching" since that's what I end up doing.  Sandra Bullock performed tremendously.  I truly forgot she was an actress and I was pulled deep into the movie.  I really felt like I was watching a real life event.

I watched the movie at home on regular television but I can only imagine what it must have felt like in the theatres.  I'm personally glad I didn't get to see it in Theatres.  I would have been petrified afterwards.

George Clooney was lost in space and by the middle of the movie he was gone.  But he continued to be a guiding force for Sandra Bullock; almost like her guardian angel or her subconscious.  Even after she lost contact with him, he was still with her.  He pushed her to go on and she finally made it back to earth.

I found my new love for earth after this movie.  I'll rather touch the face of death by a snake then be lost in space with no  one or nothing around.

"Framed for Murder" a Lifetime Movie Network Movie
Created: 2007
Director: Douglas Jackson

LAL Q'S RATING: 4/10
As usual, a twisted movie about a relationship between two sisters.  One was older, and was always the more responsible one.  The other sister was younger and the one who was always getting into trouble.  Everyone felt sorry for the younger sister and doted on her.  The older sister started to despise her younger sister over the years.

The older sister was also married to a very rich man, whom she did not love.  She had an affair, which we learn through the course of the movie, with her younger sister's husband.  Then at some point, she kills him and frames her sister for murder.  Its unclear why she kills her sister's husband.  It may be that she didn't love him anyway, or that she wanted him out of the way, and she wanted to frame his murder on her sister in order to fill out a bigger plan which was to kill her husband.  Her husband was worth a lot of money and there had to be someone who could be pinned on her husband's murder.  She set up her sister to be just such a person.

So, her younger sister went to jail for killing her own husband.  After 8 years, the younger sister was released, and the older sister continued to build on her plan to kill her husband and frame her younger sister for it.  The older sister was now in love with the HandyMan and she thought of ways to kill her husband, and for her handyman to do the dirty work.

The older sister made her younger sister to appear as though she was crazy and delusional.  She made it seem as if her sister was always fighting with her husband.
Then, one day, the handyman knocked out the younger sister, killed the older sister's husband and brought the younger sister to the murder scene where he place a gun in the younger sister's hand.

Eventually the younger sister's friends help her to get the older sister's confession on tape.  And that's the end of the movie.  The older sister escapes and the handyman gets shot.

It was a thriller and a good movie, with twists and turns, but overall, it was not the best movie that lifetime had to offer.  :)

GHAJINI

Movie Review

Director: A.R. Murugadoss
Writers: Piyush Mishra (dialogue), A.R. Murugadoss
Actors: Aamir Khan, Asif Ahmed and Tinnu Anand
Released: December 23, 2008
Running Time: 183min.

A man with anterograde amnesia, meaning that he does not recall anything after a traumatic event which happened to him years ago. He is short term memory loss, yet is able to remember everything that happened to him before his Fiance was killed.
He tries to retain his short term memory by taking Polaroid Pictures and by Tatooing himself with key phrases. He tries to retain some short term memory so that he can plan to avenge his fiance's murder.

This movie is similar to an English Movie, "Memento", in which the lead actor also has anterograde amnesia and tries to piece together his life with the goal of vengeance.
Fast-paced, although not very well acted... the story line holds your interest throughout the movie.

"8 x 10 TASVEER"

MY RATING: 7
Director:Nagesh Kukunoor
Writer:Nagesh Kukunoor (writer)
Release Date:3 April 2009 (India)
Genre:Mystery/Sci-Fi/Thriller

This is a story about a man, named Jai who has the ability to transport himself back into a picture and to visualize events as they occurred by the person he focuses on in the picture.
However, each time he goes into a picture, and into the past, he looses a bit of himself, and he becomes extremely weak. If he stays in the past longer than one minute, he can never come back into the present.
His abilities started when he was younger, and experienced a tragic, horrific event which shook his very being and changed his life. Since that time he had gained this other-worldly ability of being able to go back in time.

One day, his estranged father was killed and while on his death bed, his father was trying to tell Jai that he did not just have a heart attack but that he saw someone who was the killer. Jai was tormented with this knowledge, and kept trying to prove that his father's death was not by natural causes but was in reality a murder.
Each time he tried to convice everyone of his theories, he was accused of not allowing his father to rest in peace, and he was accused of becoming delusional and crazy.
Soon, Jai feel in love with a woman, and he did try to forget, however certain events kept occurring which brought back that same aching feeling that something was not quite right.
After many twists and turns in the movie, the finale was a bit crude, violent and bloody. The love of Jai's life turned out to be a woman who was really in love with Jai's twin brother, Jeet. Yes, Jai had a twin brother, who was actually supposedly killed in the traumtic event that occurred in their childhood. Jeet was found by a villager who tortured him, and he was never found by his family. Jai grew up in a wealthy setting. Jeet, filled with anger and rage vowed to avenge his brother, believing that his brother pushed him off a cliff and created his horrific life.

I did not like the ending when Jai convince Jeet that he loved him and that the whole thing was an accident. It was too dramatic, and unreal. It was crazy how Jeet just believed Jai in a matter of a few seconds. Just enough time to ward off a bullet aimed at Jai by his betrothed.

An extremely rushed ending to an otherwise beautiful and deep movie. Another more fluid ending could have been thought of.

RAAZ

Director:Vikram Bhatt
Writers:Mahesh Bhatt; Girish Dhamija (dialogue)
Release Date:12 March 2002 (Kuwait)

One of the few Scary Indian Movies...
About a girl, Sanjana who gets possessed and is haunted by an evil spirit. An artist who is forced to get into the middle of her life sees her future and draws her portrait even before knowing of her existence. He is like a medium through which information flows.

MOVIE REVIEW:
I think the movie can be summed up in the last sentence that Sanjana says to herself...
" I looked everywhere for evil and I couldn't find it. But when I looked within my soul, there was no one more evil than me."

"13B"

13B

Starring : R Madhavan, Neetu Chandra, Sachin Khedekar, Murli Sharma
Director : Vikram K. Kumar
Language : Hindi
Genre : Thriller
Banner : Big Pictures
Release Date : Mar 6 2009

This is a completely twisted movie that kept me guessing until the last few moments of the movie. It drew me in completely.
Now, you have to understand that I am not fluent in Hindi, so I have to keep the subtitles going at all times just under the film that is going on; yet, the movie still intralled me.

SYNOPSIS:This movie is about a man and his extended family who move into a haunted home. The poltergeists are trying to tell him something using the television as a medium. The idea is that ghosts can use the television and other electronic devices, such as a cell phone as a medium to communicate with us, the living.

Our protagonist ultimately figures out that the family who is haunting him is actually a family who has been murdered 30 years ago. The murderer is a man, who they show as "the doctor", a well-renowned individual in the community.
The story is of a doctor's vengence on a family, whom he believes killed his brother. The doctor's younger brother is in love with one of the family members, a young girl. She does not feel the same way toward him and the doctor's brother commits suicide.

The doctor is so angry and heartbroken, that he vows to kill the family and that he does. He blames the entire murder on one of the family members, a young mentally handicapped brother. The mentally challenged brother is unable to defend himself and gets thrown into prison for life.

The entire story is opened out like those Russian Dolls, revealing ultimately the little doll in the end.

MOVIE REVIEW: WHAT CAN WE TAKE AWAY?

Any wrong deeds done today will always come back to haunt you tomorrow.
Your actions today will mold the rest of your life and what your future will hold. Be wary of what you do or say for even if you think you are affecting one person, you will really be affecting 10 other people.
